Description
The headquarters of Mantra Corporation lie on the upper floors of Jisang Tower, as well as maintenance rooms and server offices on the lower levels closest to the AFTER server.
Mantra started as a company targeting peacekeeping with consumerism. They developed products, or puppeted the production of products in other companies, to distract civilians from decreasing rations and more cramped living spaces. During a cross-corp meeting, a biweekly gathering of the CEOs and elected officials who run Jisang, issues with population were brought up; too many people, birth rates higher than death rates, not enough space. A "humane" way to control the population of the tower was assigned, one that kept civilians blissfully unaware and felt like a natural course of life. Mantra, taking advantage of the budding religion of Eomeoni, the Mother, who stemmed from a blend of Christianity, Buddhism, and the other religions represented in the tower, introduced the AFTER server. A form of the afterlife, where a citizen could elect to return to the Mother, and their family would be given a monthly allowance for their patronage. Citizens of the lower class saw it as a way to provide for their families where they couldn't, and devouts of the religion saw it as salvation. With advertisement targeted towards elderly citizens who could no longer work, and people sacrificing themselves to save their family from poverty, the population in Jisang balanced out.
But shrouded by the purity of religion, Mantra uses the souls uploaded to AFTER to data-mine, to make money and generate power for the tower, and as a memory bank to be sold to outside countries for research and development. This information is held only by the higher ups, and by some degree the head server technicians, but most is on a need-to-know basis. The secrecy prevents revolts, and the heads of the company want to maintain as pure an image as possible.
